So XP has several models:

V1 - the original flatbed model that is currently in production

V2 - the prototype compact flatbed model

V4 - the XP/Ujoint  van model featured at SEMA 2012

It seems that there is space for a V3 model. Please post any ideas, suggestions, etc you may have for a future V3 XPCamper model.

I'm thinking F450/550 or a 3500/4500 and a larger, longer camper.

That's a great idea - kind of Earthroamer size?

Personally I would like to see a slightly larger version of the V2 Tacoma size camper for full size trucks. It would be almost as big as the V1 but with the V2 roof lift system (lighter, simpler, less expensive and all hard sided).

I'm quite partial to EarthCruiser from Australia.

After reading Dick and Pip Smith's experiences with the EarthRoamer and the company's (EarthRoamer) bankruptcy issues, I wouldn't bother with one.

I think before the larger, longer XP, a pass-through V4 with the option to remove the XP, seal the pass-through portal and use the van like a pick-up (flatbed) would be a winner. That it would compete against EarthCruiser and Sportsmobile's market share is secondary but important when designing premium toys.

I had a chance to check out the EarthcCruiser at the Overland Expo last May. I realy liked it and thought it was a very well designed product. But at a cost of around $250K it should be.   The fact they are going to start manufacturing a lefthand drive version here in the U.S. is good news.

Like Outback I would like to see a V2 for a full size truck. Tacoma's are good trucks but Toyota only sells around 170K per year, where as full size trucks are around 750K per year. A much larger market.

Don't know anything re: EarthCruiser but I went to the EarthRoamer factory and was impressed.  Here's my writeup of it: http://lifewetravel.com/earthroamer-expedition-vehicles

Having said that, an XP to me has a ton more value, coming in at under $100k w/ much of the same functionality... although a cab pass-through would be nice!

Hmmm, seems like someone is on a bit of a fishing trip...

Agree on a pass through. And I second the all hard sides because as different as it is, the XP has the con (IMO) of "still" being a soft side.

B) V3 XP SPY REPORT  :)

I have crawled around the V3 XPC mock-up with a measuring tape, and now have permission from Marc to pass along the following, preliminary, information:

The V3 will be very similar in overall length and width to the V1, but it is designed to slide into a long or short bed 1 ton Ford/Dodge/GM truck box. No flatbed required. Normally this would result in a dramatic reduction in storage space, but due to some unique design features, it will have almost as much storage space as the V1 flatbed. It will use a hard sided, tilt roof design, similar to the V2 (Tacoma) XPCamper design and will have all the same high end diesel appliances as the V1. The interior layout will be different from the V1 and V2 and the entry will be from the rear. The V3 will have a cassette toilet and shower combination similar to the V1.

If all goes well the first prototype should be unveiled in 2014.

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

Can't wait to hear more about this one!

I'll have to mull over which would be better for me & wifey.... looking forward to seeing the layout plan for V3.

Will the tilt roof design mean there is no fabric so it will be "bear friendly"?

YES! The V3 is fully hard sided just like the V2 (Tacoma) camper only bigger. Here is the V2 model to give you an idea of the roof lift system:

V3: Is the plan to have a choice of either 1) the slide-in pickup version OR 2) a flat bed version (straight up walls) with more storage area?

The V3 is specifically designed to slide into a regular pickup box (full size, 1 ton).  The first model will fit a short bed, later a long bed version will be available. The V1 and V2 are both designed to fit on a flatbed only.

Here is a first pic of the V3.

Missing are the windows, skylight, solar panels.

We are currently transferring all the data to CAD and will be starting the molding process soon.

The final shape will be a little different.

As usual camper gets all the usual XP goodies. Diesel every thing, dual pane windows, marine wiring etc etc.

A floor plan will follow soon.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm considering buying a new truck just so I can accommodate the V3.

CAD pics and general layout would be most welcome, whenever the time is right for such..

Updates are appreciated - I look forward to becoming a customer, hopefully sooner than later.

Marc, is this the one next door or are you moving again?

The building adjacent to the fiberglass fabrication hall.

We will have about 10.000 sqft of metal fabrication and a 3000 sqft. 3-4 bay truck conversion center there.

The "old" building will be converted to only installing parts in campers.

The picture of the V3 model that was under development along with the information you had provided about the slide-in model no longer appears on the main page of the XP Camper website. Does it mean the project has been shelved/cancelled or simply further delayed ? I would be certainly interested to hear any news on this interesting but certainly challenging project. Thanks!
